Travel Plan
Waitemata DHB is committed to reducing the number of single occupant vehicles travelling
to and between its sites. Our travel plan outlines ways to do this and sets objectives and
targets for travel. Visit the Traffic Services StaffNetsite for more information, contact the
travel plan co-ordinator, or phone ext 2089.

At North Shore Hospital bus stops are located on either side of Hospital Road outside the
hospital main entrance. It is just a short walk from the hospital, across Taharoto Road to the
Smales Farm bus station where services such as the Northern Express can be accessed. At
Waitakere Hospital, the bus stop is on Lincoln Rd, outside the main entrance. For more

Staff Shuttle Service
Traffic Services operates a regular staffshuttle between North Shore and Waitakere
Hospitals. This service is for staff who start work at one site and then have to travel to the
other site during that day. For timetable information and pick-up/drop-off points, see the
Traffic Services StaffNet site.
Pool vehicles
Waitemata DHB pool vehicles are available to staff required to travel on official business,
attend meetings at other sites or working in the community.
Due to the limited number of vehicles available, it is recommended to book well in advance
wherever possible. You can do this online via the pool car booking system - click the icon at
the bottom of your desktop. You can also make bookings using the same system in the
transport office on the lower ground floor at North Shore Hospital and in the control room at
Waitakere Hospital.
The transport office and control room are also where you collect and return the keys for the
vehicle you have booked. Outside of hours, there is a return slot for keys.
You must register to be able to use the pool car system:
• Complete a driver registration form (available on the StaffNet under ‘Transport’)
• Submit this form to the transport office or control room.
Log books are present in all pool vehicles and you must complete an entry in this book for
every trip you make. Details needed include travel time, mileage and destination.

North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals are fortunate to have ‘Green Coat’ volunteers across the organisation who assist in a variety of ways from meeting and greeting patients and visitors at the main hospital entrances to assisting staff on hospital wards with general non-clinical, undertaking health and safety audits by walking around hospital sites and raising health and safety concerns, maintaining hospital gardens and with patient experience related projects including surveying patients, data entry, transcribing or other administrative roles.
These volunteers provide a reassuring welcome and smile during what can be an anxious time for some people arriving at the front door of
our hospitals.
The volunteers embody Waitemata DHB’s values of "with compassion" and "everyone matters" Waitemata DHB appreciate the time that the volunteers donate to the organisation and value the great service they provide. If you are not wearing your ID, the volunteers may ask if they can help you - a polite refusal will not offend!
